Yesterday marked a remarkable milestone for Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County as the organization celebrated the dedication of its 100th home. A true testament to the power of community, generosity, and the belief that everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home.
The celebration honored five hardworking families who achieved homeownership through Habitat’s unique program. Each homeowner invested more than 250 hours of sweat equity building not only their own home but also those of their future neighbors. They completed homeownership and financial education courses, participated in a traditional closing process, and now hold affordable 0% interest mortgages through Habitat or CHFA, with monthly payments designed to remain within their means.
This milestone represents far more than 100 houses. It represents 100 families whose lives have been changed through the support of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community partners.
Bray is proud to have been part of that journey.
Over the years, countless members of the Bray family have volunteered during Habitat group builds, attended fundraising events, contributed financially, and supported the organization’s mission in meaningful ways. Every hour volunteered and every dollar donated has helped strengthen our community, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has played a role.
One of the day’s most meaningful moments came when Robert Bray was presented with Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County’s Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his decades of unwavering generosity and leadership.
As Habitat Executive Director Laurel Lutz shared during the ceremony, Robert made the very first donation Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County ever received—a gift that helped launch a legacy that continues to impact local families today.
That first contribution was more than a donation. It was an investment in people, neighborhoods, and the belief that homeownership creates stronger communities.
Through the years, Robert’s support has remained steadfast. From contributions through the Bray Cares Foundation to sponsoring Habitat group builds and championing countless local nonprofit organizations, his commitment to serving Mesa County has inspired others to give back and has helped make affordable homeownership a reality for generations of families.
We are incredibly proud to see Robert recognized for the lasting impact he has made on our community.
We would also like to recognize Darah Galvin for her recent service as the outgoing President of Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County. Her leadership, passion, and countless hours of volunteer service have helped advance Habitat’s mission and continue its incredible momentum. Darah’s dedication reflects the same spirit of community that has made Habitat’s first 100 homes possible, and we are grateful for all she has done to support local families.
